Jay was an incredible host! I booked a spontaneous, solo trip to Maui and camped for 5 nights. I had no plans before I got to Maui but the instructions/guide that Jay provided were so helpful. Here is how my trip transpired:
Night 1 camped at campsite 1 (from his packet) - loved the sunrise here
Night 2 campsite 3 - loved the sunset views here but the cars driving by were noisy at night
Night 3 - Hana. I didn’t get a chance to book the campsite there but I used a local recommendation from Jay and LOVED that spot. That was the only campsite I paid for. Gorgeous sunrise views. (Side note, do all of his recs for Hana! You gotta pre book black sand beach but I was able to get a time slot 2 days prior to showing up)

This trip was amazing! I was able to travel all over Maui for 9 days by myself. This camper kept me safe and comfortable the whole time! Driving a local car helped me feel secure when parking and camping around the whole island. This thing handled the Road to Hana so well! It was my favorite drive ever! The camper comes with beach items, such as chairs and snorkels, so no worries renting or buying some for this stay. The memory foam matress was comfortable to sleep on, and Jay provided a bug net, so you can keep the bugs out and the back open at night.
There was plenty of room for my luggage and camping supplies, I traveled solo, but there is totally enough room for two. I loved the adventures this vehicle took me on, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Jay put together a great travel packet that led me to the best camping spots. Jay also was super easy to reach the whole time we were on the island. He gave awesome recommendations. He really did think of everything and equips your camping trip with most everything you need and most importantly tells you where you can camp and enjoy Maui’s secret sights - he’s located in kihei super easy to get To /from the airport he was a great communicator and support throughout and it was so much better value than many other options. It’s a slightly older vehicle but worked great - rugged and easy to drive and great for parking inconspicuously. If you want to camp in campsites definitely book early. although I know the government camp sites should be opening more up now that covid is ending. A truly great way to experience Maui.

I'm not going to lie saying that this was not challenging at some moments.. but I'm not lying that sleeping next to these breathtaking places was one of the best experiences of my life. The van is comfortable to sleep in and has everything you’ll need to have a great time on Maui. Everything was neatly packed a d was obviously well thought out by Jay himself who has lots of experience himself car camping on Maui. I researched a lot about what to do and places to go before I went but it turned out I really didn’t have to. Jay had us covered for the entire stay and some of our favorite spots are the secret places he shared with us. If you love camping and are comfortable living off the grid for a while, you’ll definitely love this!

We didn’t have to plan or prepare anything besides bring our clothes because Jay had a wonderful itinerary planned for our 4 night stay with tips about where to park, what to see/do, where the facilities were located, and his favorite things on the island. The SUV was decked with all of the supplies we needed to camp and my 6’5” partner was comfortable enough on the mattress topper. There is no better way to see Maui than to car camp with one of Jay’s vehicles. Waking up on the beach and seeing the stars, then the sunrise, then the whales (in whale season) and turtles playing in the waves; it was magical. But perhaps my favorite part was that we didn’t need to plan anything! Jay’s local tips allowed us to go where we wanted, when we wanted, and we were able to have a fully spontaneous vacation. That being said, two things we will book ahead upon returning are the old Lahaina luau and Camp Olowalu as both were reserved weeks ahead of time. If you’ve read this far into my review, you’re clearly interested; you will not regret booking with Jay!
